This site is intended for any data in any format that can be referenced to location on the earth.
This is a prototype and is being improved over time. Options in the menu to the left when fully functional will allow you to do the following:
Search for Data (under development) - At this menu link you may search for data that has been entered into the commons by yourself and others. You may legally download and use the data you find without asking the permission of the original data creators. This assumes that you adhere to the indicated Creative Commons licensing conditions that grant you liberal rights to use the downloaded data in your own work. To download data, you must first supply a username and verifiable e-mail address.
For any dataset you download you have the opportunity to rate whether and to what extent the dataset has been fit for your use.
Contribute Data (partially functional) - At this link you can readily provide basic information about scientific and technical datasets you have created and that you desire to contribute to the data commons. You will provide:
- information about what open access conditions, if any, you wish to impose on the use of your data, and
- information that will make it possible for others to find your data and decide if it is appropriate for their needs.
